Insurance

Insure your prestige electric bicycle from unwanted harm.
Due to the relatively new technology of electric scooters, mopeds and pedal bikes, finding suitable insurance can be difficult. Below is a list of insurers that you may wish to contact for a quote.
Electric Scooters & Moped Insurance
There are a few companies that quote for electric scooters such as NIU or Super Soco.
Due to some of these scooters begin new to market, insurers may not have model information listed on their online systems and you may need to call for a quote.
- Bikesure - Adrian Flux group - 0800 089 2000
- Lexham insurance - 01379 646 6529
We do not recommend any of the above over each other. This information is provided for reference only.
How much is electric scooter insurance?
The insurance quotes we’ve seen coming back vary between £250 to over £1,000 per year. Always gather as many quotes as possible. Different companies evaluate or apply risk criteria differently.
We would expect to see quotes decrease throughout 2019 as more and more electric mopeds and motorcycles are brought onto the market. It's a very young industry with many early adopters. Insurers don't have as much data as they do on petrol scooters so premiums can be slightly higher than usual.
Don't be put off if your initial quote is higher than expected - this is normal to begin with. Try again in a month and it may have dropped considerably as there will be more electric mopeds on the roads.
Electric Bike Insurance

With electric bikes being a significant investment, it's important to get the right cover to protect you against the unexpected.
We suggest finding specialist insurers, such as Bikmo, who can give an accurate quote and understands an eBike.
Speed Pedelec Insurance

We have listed the Stromer ST1X, ST2, ST2S AND ST5 with the Insurance ABI database. These came online on the 20th of June, 2018.
This should help insurers identify the models and give more accurate quotes.
You should keep in mind that the speed pedelecs are legally classified as a moped, no different than a Honda 50cc for example. When talking to insurance companies it’s not considered as a bicycle, but as a moped in terms of UK legislation.
We have also listed the Stromer models with the DVLA so each has the official DVLA code and can therefore be fully road registered and issued with a number plate.
When you purchase a Stromer bike from us, we will give you the VIN number which can be used to insure it while you wait for registration.
We will give you the registration number prior to delivery however this will not show on the insurers system until after it is registered with the DVLA which can take 7 - 10 days.
You may find it more effective to call rather than apply online due to the new nature of these electric models.
