Bike Racks For Electric Bikes
Transporting electric bikes on traditional bike carriers can be tricky due to the extra weight and awkward sizes of them. We take a look at the most popular and suitable carriers available for you, and what you should look out for.
Most standard TowBar bike racks can carry 2 - 3 bikes with a weight of up to 15kg each.
However, electric bikes are usually around 20kg due to the battery and motor which can put a lot of the usual contenders out of consideration. One alternative is to remove the battery before travelling - this can easily take 3 - 5kg of weight off the bike!
The other types of bike carrier - roof and rear door clip on, are not suitable for electric bikes because of this weight. A solid towbar rack will prevent too much rattling and annoying noise from occurring - plus you can purchase ramps to make loading heavy bikes easier.
Thule are a Swedish brand with a fantastic reputation. Well designed and easy to use, their stuff offers great value considering how long some people have used their racks for!
Thule EasyFold XT
