Ducati Announces Electric Motorcycle

January 21, 2019

Ducati Announces Electric Motorcycle

Italian motorcycle maker Ducati has recently announced that it is going electric with plans to release a production two wheeled EV.

The market for electric motorcycles is growing quickly, with Energica and Zero now beginning to face competition from the more traditional motorcycle brands. However, with no price point yet released it's hard to know where Ducati will sit within this line up.

Energica's Evo starts at £27,000 and Zero's range starts at around £12,000. Clearly not quite for everyone just yet for these mean performance machines. Harley Davidson's new electric LiveWire starts at £29,000.

The only electric bike that can do 60mph currently looking affordable is the Super Soco TC Max at £3,995.

This is likely to be a high performance, stylish and desirable machine but not one that many could out right afford.

It has been speculated that this announcement may tie in with the fact Ducati is owned by Volkswagen Audi Group, and reflects recent policy decisions to invest more in electric. They've been working closely with a Milan design school too, producing a concept of the Zero (pictured) - clearly this has been in the making for a while.

Time spans look vague, but expect to see something appear later this year or early next year based off remarks from others within Ducati.
