Up to 8x safer than a standard helmet, it inflates when an accident is detected thanks to on board sensors taking 200 measurements a second. This airbag protects your entire head and neck from shock damage if you fall or are hit on your bike.
The whole airbag deploys in under 0.1 of a second. A low impact design means you can ride freely without the usual discomfort of a helmet, yet are still protected.
Made up of two parts, the Hövding consists of a collar and a cover. The collar contains the airbag system that is waterproof, dirt repellent and comfortable to wear. The cover allows for an extra protective layer of which many designs are available.
At speeds of 25km/h (15.5mph) a crash wearing a normal helmet has a 90% chance of serious head injury. With Hövding it's just 2%.
The Hövding has to be seen to be believed! Watch it in action below, and keep scrolling for more information.

How Hövding Works
Once activated, sensors inside the collar measure 200 movements every second. When an unusual movement is detected, it will inflate in under 0.1 of a second.
You can use your bike normally without any worry of inflation - only an unpredictable or unusual movement will trigger it.
You can move as you usually would when riding. The button on the zip tag connects to the right hand side of the collar which actives the unit - it cannot inflate if this is not connected.
Once activated, LEDs will light up and a sound will alert you that it is now activated. When disconnecting, a sound will be emitted to confirm.
The airbag is designed just like a hood, giving a huge coverage area. Made in ultra-strong nylon fabric, it won't rip or tear when in contact with the ground.
Your field of vision is left unhindered. The airbag is fixated to your neck to provide absorption of shocks and bumps and will remain active for a few seconds after inflation, to protect against any secondary hits or bumps from your accident.
After a few seconds, the airbag will slowly start to deflate and release the pressure.
Will it Pop?
It will inflate when it needs to, but the strong fabric means it won't burst if you scrape along the ground.
To stop it from inflating unnaturally, Hövding conducted thousands of tests using dummies as well as taking riding data from everyday cyclists. This data was combined to build the algorithms which detect unusual movement. Will it Pop - Video
How to use Hövding
How to put your Hövding on:
- Place around your neck and zip up to your chin
- Ensure the zip is completely closed
- Only activate when cycling. Connect the button on the zip tag to the right hand side of the collar, and unhook when not in use.
Simply charge through a USB cable. A fully charged battery will last 8 - 9 hours, and when low will emit a warning sound.
Customise with a Collar
The collar gives visibility to other road users that you are protected, as well as being easy to remove and wash.
